Sexism is not hip, cool, or ironic.

Hipsters can be feminists, too, which is why THR endorses the The F-Word.

Who? The F-Word is a feminist discussion group at FSU.

What?  The first meeting of the year is this Sunday at 7pm in SSB 214. The topic will be “What is Feminism?” Snacks will be provided (Vegan and vegetarian options will be available).

When and Where? Sunday, August 29th at 7pm in SSB 214

Why? Maybe you’ve been dying for a forum to discuss American Apparel’s demeaning and sexist advertising, or maybe you’ve blown your grocery budget on leotards and you’re only interested in the free snacks. Either way, we want to see you there. Meetings will be every Sunday, while topics and discussion leaders will vary.

capitalcitydregs asked: check out http://capitalcitydregs.tumblr.com/ It has good incites into real people involved in the tallahassee hipster scene. It tells the truth, and does not spare the feelings of those who don't deserve it. The person who wrote it (me) has been involved with the tallahassee hipster scene both as a member as well as a drug dealer, musician, fighter, and partyer. Therefore I know everyone who is central and integral to the scene. More posts to come.

more tallahassee hipster reads from someone who claims to know everyone.

Death + Taxes: PBR is changing hands

Pabst Brewing Company has sold for 250 Million dollars, which is amazing for a variety of reasons. First, the company doesn’t actually brew anything—they outsource production to a bunch of other manufacturers. Second, of the beverage brands Pabst Brewing Company owns, only a few of them are actually beers—most of them, like Schlitz and Colt 45, are actually malt liquors, which means they were never “brewed” at all. But that’s just the beginning.

What’s more, the company who sold the brand is actually a charity— the Kalmanovitz Charitable Foundation for “hospitals and universities.” The IRS had ordered the charity to sell PBR 5 years ago when it was borderline worthless before the hipster youth gave its flagship Pabst Blue Ribbon brand a renaissance. And the brand who’s forking over the $250 large also distributes tuna fish and pickles.

So, let’s just re-cap: Charity for hospitals and universities buys crappy blue-collar beer (or whatever it is), files for IRS extension and turns it into a staple of dirty hipster culture, sells it for a mint to awfully blue-collar sounding company that distributes pickles and beer. Hospital and university beneficiaries of the 250M to be announced. I am I the only one at a loss, here?

upthehunks-deactivated20100725- asked: it's better to compliment and boost emotions rather than break them down with critique and criticism, you seem a little harsh. is it possible that you're bitter because you don't want to acknowledge that you, yourself, are a hipster?

We at the THR have no issues or qualms with identifying as hipsters. We tend to believe that most hipsters (with us included) take themselves too seriously and that is why we attempt to point out the sillyness that is hipsterdom.
